Leave Your Legacy with CHI Mercy Health Foundation
We invite you to create your legacy at CHI Mercy Health through a planned gift that supports the work of the Foundation while allowing you to plan for your own financial security.
What is a Planned Gift?
Planned Giving, also referred to as gift planning or legacy giving, enables philanthropic individuals to make larger gifts to charitable organizations than they could make from ordinary income.
Planned gifts are not the result of great wealth but rather of a great desire to make a lasting impact. After carefully considering the goals of your contribution, the assets to be used, the gift’s timing and tax implications, and its impact on your family and financial situation, you may find that you are able to make a larger impact with a planned gift than you imagined.
Some planned gifts provide life-long income to the donor. Other gift plans use estate and tax planning to provide for charity and heirs in ways that maximize the gift and/or minimize its impact on the donor’s estate. Thus, by definition, a planned gift is any major gift, made in lifetime or at death as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning. These include gifts of equity, life insurance, real estate, personal property, or cash.
Our planned giving program was established to allow donors to make larger gifts than otherwise possible without undue financial sacrifice. These types of contributions allow you to enjoy the financial benefits and recognition of such a gift, along with the knowledge that your support has made a difference.
The Foundation encourages anyone wishing to make a planned gift to seek the counsel of a legal or tax advisor to discuss your ideas. Donors who are considering making a planned gift are also encouraged to contact the Foundation early in the process with their intent to help ensure we are prepared to accept the gift and that your wishes can be honored
Bequests
One way for you to support CHI Mercy Health is to leave a bequest. A bequest is a gift made to the Foundation in your will or trust. You can make a single bequest to CHI Mercy Health Foundation and we will then distribute your gift based on the instructions you provide. Bequests can be used to support lines of service, endow a program, or be designated to be used at the Foundation’s discretion.
Let CHI Mercy Health Foundation help you craft your gift to match your passion. If you wish to be anonymous, your gift may be made confidentially. However, with your permission, CHI Mercy Health Foundation would appreciate recognizing your gift so it may inspire others to follow in your footsteps. Your gift will support, inspire, and transform the patients, families, community, and team members at CHI Mercy Health for generations to come.
If CHI Mercy Health Foundation is a designated charity in your will, trust, or other estate planning document, please consider forwarding a copy of the document or relevant pages to the Foundation’s Director. If you are in the process of drafting your estate documents, it may be wise to discuss your bequest with the Foundation. This will allow CHI Mercy Health Foundation and Hospital the opportunity to confirm we are able to fulfill your requests and help ensure your wishes are carried out to the fullest extent.
To discuss the possibility of a planned gift or specific language for your gift documents, please contact CHI Mercy Health Foundation Director at 701-845-6557. CHI Mercy Health Foundation does not provide legal advice, please consult with your attorney or CPA for specific legal or financial information. Inquiries are confidential and involve no obligation.
